About the Driving Lesson
The DSA state that on average it takes 40 hours of instruction combined with 20 hours of private practise to get a student to test standard.
How many lessons it takes will depend on the instructor’s ability and also the pupil’s aptitude, interest, enthusiasm and focus.
Our lesson starts and ends at a mutually convenient location either at home or work, or at a convenient spot in town.
Each is one step in a structured progressive learning experience on the journey to get a pupil to drive safely at test standard, and therefore is a continuation of the previous lesson.
We start with a discussion about the previous lesson with some questions and answers, so that it is established that the pupil understands the previous subject. If this had been one of the manouevres, we go and practise it just to reinforce the skills needed before moving on.
I then describe with diagrams, and maybe demonstrate, the system of driving we use for the next subject, which the pupil then practises for a while. Next we go for some driving dealing with normal traffic conditions.
At the end of the lesson we will pull over at the agreed location and then discuss what we have been doing, dealing with points that need to be improved or praised. We then set the subject for the next lesson and it’s venue. |
