Many people claim to be good drivers. In fact nearly everybody does. Driving is one of those subjects like football where everybody is an expert. The purpose of making any journey is to get there safely. WITHIN THE LAW. Causing as little inconvenience to others as possible.

The means of doing this is to drive in the way described in the Highway Code. People believe that they are so good that it does not apply to them. That is until they have a crash caused by being too close to other vehicles. Combined with speeding.

The Highway Code was created to give all road users a system of save driving which will reduce the number of crashes, deaths and injuries. They can achieve this by knowing the Highway Code and they must keep good spatial awareness that means a safe distance between themselves and the vehicle ahead and keeping a margin for error around the vehicle combined with forward planning. If everybody drove to that system of safe driving the roads would be a lot safer for everyone.
